Academic commemoration held for Iranian prof. of science and ethics, Manouchehr Davai
In a memorial colloquium on Sunday, November 19, 2023 Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences paid tribute to the academic achievements and multifaceted work of Dr. Manouchehr Davai.
The commemoration of Dr. Manouchehr Davai, a lasting figure and outstanding professor of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, held in Imam Khomeini Hall with the presence of Mahmood Shalooei, head of the Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Works and Dignitaries (SACWD), Mohammad Raeiszadeh, president of the Iranian Medical Council, Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi, member of the Expediency Discernment Council, Alireza Zali, head of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and a group of professors and students.
Mahmood Shalooei, head of the SACWD in his remarks, said: “The important point in Dr. Davai's life and academic career is that he was a wise physician. When medical knowledge is combined with wisdom and the physician finds a way into the innermost, that's the time when their actions will be fruitful and effective.”
The advisor to the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance stated: "We hope more prominent figures like him would emerge to play important role in the Iranian medical society as well as beyond the country`s borders.”
Another speaker, Mohammad Raeiszadeh, president of the Iranian Medical Council, declared: “The late Dr. Davai was a polymath who observed the professional ethics of medicine throughout his life. Dr. Davai is undoubtedly one of the most important role models for the Iranian medical community, especially the students, who should always be the focus of our attention.”
Elsewhere in the ceremony, Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi, Member of the Expediency Discernment Council, asserted: “Dr. Davai was a philanthropist and behaved altruistically towards people; be it his students or his patients and it was such personality trait that made him a legendary figure.”
He clarified: “Dr. Davai was a man of faith and a true believer, and his act was righteous and sincere, and that he used science and knowledge as a tool to improve health care services.”
In his turn, Alireza Zali, head of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences maintained: “Dr. Davai was a role model in Iranian medical society, who brought ethics, science and politeness to the fore in his personality.”
He added: “Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences is proud that many physicians were nurtured in this university under the late Dr. Davai. Undoubtedly, the late Dr. Manouchehr Davai is a lasting figure in Iran`s medical history who possessed such unique knowledge and personality.”
At the end of the ceremony, the late Dr. Davai`s wife was awarded the SACWD plaque and the representative of the Islamic Association of Medical Students of Shahid Beheshti University read the students' letter of appreciation addressed to the family of the late Dr. Manouchehr Davai. Also, the book on life and scientific services of Dr. Manouchehr Davai, written by Mohammed Hassan Rajabi Davani and published by the SACWD was unveiled.
