The third edition of the national and international commemoration of Persian poet, Hakim Nezami concluded with a closing ceremony at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
The event featured reading of the message of Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, the speech of the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili, Head of the Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Works and Dignitaries (SACWD), the ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran, and the presence of a large number of professors of Persian language and literature and foreign ambassadors.
At the beginning of the ceremony, after reading the President's message, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said in his remarks: “This is the third year that Hakim Nizami's commemoration ceremony is held. This year, the SACWD has organized many conferences, meetings and festivals to introduce the Iranian intellectuals.”
Esmaili continued: “We honor our thinkers regardless of political boundaries. Mowlana was born in Balkh and died in Konya. We take pride in Mowlana whose poems are source of wisdom in Persian language. Nezami also does not fit in today's political borders either in Azerbaijan or in Iran; he belongs to the cultural region of Greater Persia. The same is the case with the rest of Iranian scholars.”
In the continuation of this ceremony, Mahmood Shalooei, head of the SACWD, said: “Thanks to the support of Iran`s president and Minister of Culture, the SACWD with the cooperation of universities and Iranian Society for the Promotion of Persian Language and Literature, organized several scientific and specialized meetings on topics related to Hakim Nezami, which has left a significant impact on the cultural and literary sphere of Iran.”
Elsewhere in the ceremony, Nizamuddin Zohidi, the ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran, said: “Hakim Nezami is considered one of the most influential Persian-speaking poets in the poetry of his time and next generations. The lofty stance of Nezami in Persian literature and the literature of the region and the world has inspired scholars of the East and West to carry out researches and publishing and promoting the lasting works of Nezami. As in my country, Tajikistan, all Nezami`s works have been translated and available to poetry and literature enthusiasts.”
“Poets such as Amir Khosrow Dehlavi, Khajavi Kermani and Maulana Abdul Rahman Jami, Abdullah Hatfi and several others continued the traditions of Nezami in the best possible way”, Zohidi concluded.
The ceremony also included honoring Nezami scholars, unveiling of works, and awarding prizes to selected books on the subject of Nezami.
