The opening ceremony of the international conference "Shaikh al-Ishraq and the Modern World" was held on May 13, 2023 co-hosted by Suhrawardi Hekmat Institute and the Society for the Appreciation of Cultural Woks and Dignitaries (SACWD) in conference hall of Payam Hotel in Zanjan province.
In the ceremony attended by a group of Iranian and foreign scholars, Mahmood Shalooei, Head of the SACWD, in his remarks, said: “Shaikh al-Ishraq sought to bridge the gap between heroic epics and mystical epics and to expand the spiritual wisdom of ancient Persia and to introduce it to the world.”
Head of the SACWD added: "Researchers and scholars will undoubtedly continue to explore Suhrawardi's thought and worldview and will share his valuable teachings and doctrines with the scientific communities of Iran and the world."
Shalooei concluded his remarks, saying: “We are on the verge of the commemoration of the venerated Persian poet, Hakim Abulqasem Ferdowsi. In his Persian epic, Shahnameh, recurring motifs are bravery and heroism which abounds in outstanding stories about mythological heroes who represent the spiritual importance of ancient Iran. Hence, Shaikh al-Ishraq viewed shahnameh as a Persian holy book and appreciated it.”
In his turn, Mohsen Javadi, the scientific secretary of the conference, said: “From over 120 submissions to the conference secretariat, 84 abstracts have been accepted. Among which, 16 abstracts are in English from Turkey, USA, Canada, India, Malaysia, Germany and England.”
The scientific secretary of the conference pointed out: “The inception of the idea to hold the event occurred a year ago, then the call was announced, advisors and faculty members also participated at the scientific and international level. In fact, the conference aims to review Suhrawardi's thought and to introduce it to the young generation.”
In the event, Ayatollah Seyed Mustafa Mohagheq Damad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suhrawardi Hekmat Institute, Gholamreza A`wani, Professor of Islamic Hekmat and permanent member of the Academy of Sciences, Ali Asghar Mohammad Khani, Cultural Deputy of Shahr-e Ketab Institute, and a group of foreign Suhawardi scholars discussed the status and importance of Shaikh al-Ishraq in Iran and across the world.
